Bernstein's Mass

Bernstein's Mass at Dell Hall

Why see Bernstein's Mass?

Bernstein at 100

From sacred Latin texts to electric guitar riffs, marching bands to contributions from Paul Simon and Broadway's Stephen Schwartz, Bernstein's epic Mass is a diamond with many facets and a glorious celebration of hope and peace. As part of the composer's centenary festivities, Bernstein100Austin give you the chance to experience this work as Bernstein intended, in a full-scale theatrical performance, set to be the biggest in Austin's history.

Featuring 300 artists including three choirs, Ballet Austin, the University of Texas Austin Marching Band and many more, the work's full title 'Mass, a theatre piece for singers, players and dancers' is truly represented, as is the entire performing arts community!

Commissioned by Jackie Kennedy in 1971 to mark the opening of Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center, Bernstein sought to capture the spirit of a nation at the end of a tumultuous decade and lift its spirits with his message of love and acceptance, peace and healing. More relevant than ever, don't miss this bold musical journey from one of the 20th Century's greatest geniuses.
